HELOMUR
A traditional Sudanese drink. But richer than that — a ritual, a memory, a living heritage.
Helo Mur is made from fermented sorghum and spices — but it is also made from time, from waiting, from hands working together. Women travel long distances to gather, divide tasks, share fire and smoke and laughter. It is not a recipe. It is a collective celebration, a transmission of knowledge from one generation to the next.
Some say Helo Mur is as old as the Nile itself — more than three thousand years old. Most people tell the story of a woman from Berber, one of Sudan's oldest cities, named Amna Abd al-Raziq Fahl, who discovered it by chance when grain sprouted from a sack wetted by rain. She ground it, added spices, and gave us this ritual.
Helo Mur gathers Sudanese people — in villages and cities, north and south, east and west. It brings together the poor and the wealthy. It holds the sweet and the bitter together: a ritual that unites us across our differences.
Helomur Picture was born from this. We chose the name because we resemble it — collective work, a ritual of documentation, a quiet act of resistance, a project of memory. We work in the spirit of collaboration. We preserve stories, map places, build a living archive of a homeland in pieces.
We believe that documentation is not an administrative act. It is resistance, art, and life.
حِلُو مُر، مشروبٌ سودانيّ، لكنّه أغنى من ذلك؛ هو طقسٌ وذاكرةٌ وتراثٌ حيّ، مصنوعٌ من الذرة المُزرّعة والبهارات، كذلك يُصنع من وقت وانتظارٍ وأيادٍ تُنجِزُ العَمل جماعيَّاً.
نساءٌ يَقطَعن المسافات الطويلة، يجتَمعنَ ويُوَزِّعنَ المهام؛ يتقاسمنَ النار والدخان والضحك المَرِح. مشروبٌ ليس وصفةً مُجرَّدة، بل احتفالٌ جماعيّ وانتقالٌ للمعرفة من جيلٍ لآخر.
بعضهم يقول إنّ الحلو مُر قديمٌ قِدم النيل. ويَروي أغلب الناس حكاية سيّدةٍ من مدينة بربر تُدعى آمنة عبد الرازق فحل، كانت قد اكتَشَفته مصادفةً، فطحنتها وأضافت البهارات وولَّدت لنا هذا الطقس الساحر.
الحلو مر يجمع السودانين في القرى والمدن، في الشمال والجنوب؛ يجمع بين الفقراء والأثرياء، بين الحِلُو والمُر: إنّه طقسٌ يُوحّدنا رغم اختلافاتنا الخَلَّاقة.
كذلك وُلدت مؤسسة Helomur Picture، واختارت هذا الاسم لأنها تُشبهه: عملٌ جماعي، طقسٌ من التوثيق، فعلٌ من المقاومة الهادئة، مشروع من الذاكرة. نعمل بروح التعاون، نحفظ القصص، نرسم الخرائط، نخلق أرشيفًا حيَّاً. نؤمن أن التوثيق فعل مقاومة. وأن التعاون، مثل النار التي تصنع الحلو مر، يمنحنا الدفء والحماية.

Founded by
Helomur Picture was founded and is directed by Rua Osman — a Sudanese film producer and documentary filmmaker whose work centres on resilience, memory, and cultural heritage.
She has worked as producer and collaborator on films that have travelled to Venice, Cannes, Doc NYC, Oberhausen, and MedFilm Festival. She participated in the Rotterdam Producers Lab (2022) and served as jury member at Breaking Walls Short Film Festival (2024).
Through Helomur, she is currently developing The Martyr’s Wedding — her first international feature as producer — and the digital archiving project Atina: The Palace and Republic Crossroad, funded by AFAC.

أسّست المؤسسة وتُديرها رؤى عثمان — منتجة أفلام ومخرجة وثائقية سودانية، تتمحور أعمالها حول الصمود والذاكرة والتراث الثقافي.
عملت منتجةً ومتعاونةً في أفلام وصلت إلى البندقية وكانّ ودوك إن واوبرهاوزن ومهرجان ميدفيلم. شاركت في مختبر روتردام للمنتجين (٢٠٢٢)، وكانت عضوة لجنة تحكيم في مهرجان بريكينج وولز للأفلام القصيرة (٢٠٢٤).
تطوّر حالياً من خلال هيلومر مشروع عُرس الشهيد — أول إنتاج دولي لها كمنتجة — ومشروع الأرشفة الرقمية أتينا: تقاطع القصر والجمهورية، بتمويل من مؤسسة أفاك.
